YouTube Algorithm Explained
What is Search Engine Optimization for YouTube?
Search Engine Optimization, commonly referred to as SEO, is the act of improving content and webpages in order to rank higher on search engine result pages. Search engines have algorithms that determine which webpages hold the most relevant results, and those pages are ranked highest among the search results.
Using SEO tactics on YouTube, such as keywords, meta descriptions, and links, your content will stand out to the YouTube algorithms as relevant information and ultimately rank higher. Ranking higher leads to increased traffic and consumer trust.
Is it okay to re-purpose the content made for YouTube?
With long form YouTube content being created on a daily basis, there is bound to be content worth re-purposing for digital marketing purposes. There are countless ways to turn your YouTube videos into creative online content, including Shorts, Reals, TikTok, etc
What is the difference between digital marketing and digital advertising?
Digital marketing allows businesses to raise brand awareness, share information about products, engage with audiences, and monitor online reputation. Digital advertising allows businesses to advertise and promote products, offer discounts or specials, and attract buying customers. Simply put, digital marketing establishes a target consumer audience while digital advertising drives this audience to sales.
What is YouTube marketing and why do I need it?
Video marketing done properly can be extremely powerful. We know that 95% of the audience is not interested in real estate information. Only the 5% of your clients that are looking to buy and sell are genuinely interested in true “real estate” information.
So, it becomes a very delicate dance of what to post.
Short form content like Instagram Reels, TikToks, and YouTube Shorts are really good at entertaining the 95% audience that just wants to see you dance.
This is where 99% of the real estate agents hang out. It’s also the easiest content to make but doesn’t build trust and authority with your audience.
The 5% want long, informationally rich videos that answer all of their questions.
This is how YouTube is able to generate such high-quality results.
How do you measure the results of your YouTube channel?
The Channel Junkies have a motto; “we sell homes, not views & subscribers.” Real estate agents are conditioned to believe views and subscribers result in success. That’s because many influential real estate agents have a big following on social. So they are put on the virtual stages\ and people believe that is what success looks like.
There is no direct correlation between views and subscribers and the amount of reach outs and closings you are going to receive. Most real estate agents want to know the ratios, but the truth is that we have helped generate over one billion dollars in sales through organic YouTube content and the only thing that drives results is consistency, optimized content, and engaging videos.
Who is responsible for creating the content your agency provides?
We have a large, highly-skilled and trained team that specializes in YouTube & social media content creation. All of our content is created in-house and we do not outsource any part of the process.
Does my real estate business really need YouTube marketing?
Yes, 51% of all buyers now say that YouTube is the primary tool they use when searching for a home. However, most buyers do not use it to look for specific homes or open houses. They are looking at what it looks like to live in those areas. This is why it is important to understand what is being searched for on YouTube and to then build content around those keywords.
What is your expertise and experience with YouTube marketing?
The Channel Junkies have built 14 of their own personal YouTube for Real Estate channels. All the way from Seattle, Washington to the Florida Keys and many cities in between. Having the vast knowledge of all the unique market types gives the Channel Junkies a competitive advantage that nobody else has. There is a distinct difference between creating a channel for a small city like Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho and a big city like Houston, Texas. Each channel has a proven track record of success and going through the process just reaffirms that the Channel Junkies process works.
What is inbound marketing?
Inbound marketing is a business methodology that attracts customers by creating valuable content and experiences tailored to their needs. While outbound marketing interrupts the audience with content they don’t always want, inbound marketing forms connections they are looking for and solves problems they already have.
What is content marketing?
Content marketing is a strategic approach used to attract, engage, and retain an audience by creating and sharing relevant information. This approach establishes expertise, promotes brand awareness, and keeps your business top of mind when it’s time for your audience to buy or sell a home.
What are keywords?
Keywords are the words and phrases that searchers use - usually on a search engine. These are the words that we use when looking for pages, images, videos, vlogs, or any kind of information or content on the Web.. These keywords need to be strategically inserted into your content.
What is evergreen content?
Evergreen content is search-optimized content that is continually relevant and stays “fresh” for consumers over a long period of time. You might think that all content is sustainable; after all, a TikTok video you post doesn’t just disappear after you publish it. But evergreen is different.
If I already have a YouTube channel, do I need to start a new one?
The answer to this isn’t so simple. In most cases we suggest starting a brand-new YouTube channel from scratch. The YouTube algorithm is very powerful and knows exactly what your audience is looking for.
The YouTube algorithm selects videos for the viewers with two goals in mind; finding the right video for each viewer and enticing them to keep watching.
When we talk about “the algorithm” we’re talking about three related but slightly different selections or discovery systems:
- One that selects videos for the YouTube homepage
- One that brands results for any given search
- One that selects suggested videos for the viewers to watch next
YouTube says that in 2022, homepage and suggested videos are usually the top sources of traffic for most channels. Except for explainer or instructional videos (i.e. “how to create a YouTube video for real estate”), which often see the most traffic in search instead.
So, if you have a channel that already has a mature algorithm, the chances are that it isn’t being targeted to the right audience.
How YouTube determines the algorithm?
Which ranking signals does YouTube use to decide which videos to show people?
Each traffic source is slightly different. But ultimately what affects your video’s view count is a mix of:
Personalization (the viewers history and preferences)
Performance (the video’s success)
External Factors (the overall audience or market)
How Do I grow my channel?
Growing your channel is all about creating YouTube for Real Estate videos viewers want to watch and accurately presenting them to the audience. When doing so, here are a few tips to keep in mind:
With each video, think carefully about the title, description, and thumbnail you plan to use - these should all accurately reflect your content and let viewers know what they can expect from the video. If you’re a Shorts creator, think about how the first 1-2 seconds of your content can grab viewers scrolling through the video feed!
Once you’ve got viewers watching, you can redirect their attention via hashtags, playlists, cards, and end screens.
How does the YouTube Algorithm work?
YouTube’s search and discovery systems are built to find videos that match viewers’ individual interests. YouTube recommends videos based on things such as: what your audience watches and doesn’t watch, how much time they spend watching, what they like and dislike, if they mark a video as ‘not interested,’ and on satisfaction surveys.
Rather than trying to find a secret code to these systems, focus instead on making videos that the Channel Junkies know will resonate with your audience. A great tool is YouTube Analytics, which provides data that can help you understand how your existing content is performing and provide insights for future videos!

What should I do if I got a copyright claim on my YouTube video?
You should always follow the terms and conditions set forth on the licensed copy and music you are using. Typically, YouTube has a button where you can dispute the claim and upload the license. You can also reference your license information in the description of the video you are using the content in.
How long does it take to start getting real estate leads from my YouTube channel?
Every channel, creator, and market is different. We have seen some YouTube for Real Estate channels generate leads within the first week. We have also seen other YouTube for Real Estate channels take over six months to generate a high-quality lead. Typically, bigger metro markets and higher price points take a little bit longer. However, when the channel starts producing leads, it doesn’t stop.
How many videos should I be uploading on my YouTube Channel?
