Back in 2018, we wanted to build a solid business around in-bound marketing systems. 

 

Our vision was to generate high-quality in-bound leads at scale. 

 

We also wanted a tool that would deliver content to consumers whenever they searched it. And, it had to be on a platform where our content would be evergreen and not lose its relevancy.

YouTube is the obvious answer.

But, like so many other real estate professionals, we were really fixated on short form content and becoming the “digital mayor” for our community.

 

YouTube for Real Estate ended up being our 10th pillar of focus. 

 

We spent over $100,000 on content and systems that failed us. 

 

We were told to shoot community style videos and re-purpose the content onto every single platform available. 

 

We got a lot of notoriety from our community, but it never paid off.  

 

What we started to understand is that there are two very distinct categories for social media marketing. 

Entertainment style platforms include, but not limited to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube Shorts.

Educational style platforms are primarily YouTube and Google. I wouldn’t consider Google a Social Media marketing platform, but it does work in conjunction with YouTube.

Google owns YouTube and the video feed from Google is connected to YouTube.

 

You can also rank Google Page 1 with 100% organic YouTube videos and not spend a dime on Google AdSense.

 

We now know that when consumers want to be entertained and have 30-60 seconds, they
prefer short form, quick bursting content. Scrolling on short form content releases burst of dopamine so the consumers attention and focus is somewhere else. They basically want that “next fix” like someone addicted to drugs.

 

Another massive issue with all these entertainment style platforms is that when you release a video, you see quick results, and then it drops flat.

 

After a couple hours, days if you’re lucky, that content is irrelevant to the platform and serves no purpose.

Those platforms use a “here today, gone tomorrow” philosophy and consistently look for the next viral video to feed the algorithm.

The other piece of the puzzle that not many experts talk about is that to become very successful with short form content, you must engage with your audience like crazy.

 

When someone likes your post or makes a comment, to be successful, you have to slide into their DM’s and start pursuing them. It’s very exhausting.

This is the opposite of evergreen and long-term brand building.

 

When consumers need to have real questions answered and make big decisions, they typically
turn to YouTube.

 

They are looking for longform content that provides answer and solutions to
their problems.

 

It isn’t uncommon to see channels with +10-minute average view durations per
video. This does not mean you need to create videos that are longer than 10+ minutes but it does help.

Think about it like this...

You are moving across the country, and you are deciding between two locations that you are unfamiliar with.

 

What platform are you going to seek out information on? TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube?

 

The same goes for buying a car.

 

If you are trying to decide between a Tesla and a Rivian, where are you going to get information?

 

You could go to each company’s website but those are fairly biased.

 

Or, are you heading to YouTube to hear what real people are saying about the cars they have purchased.

 

We put a lot of trust into on-line reviews and when the person giving you that information is telling the truth and not sugar coating it, you start to build trust and authority in your mind.

 

The longer you watch someone, the more trusting
they become to you.

 

This is the exact philosophy we use with YouTube and our real estate
business.

51% of ALL homebuyers now state that YouTube is their #1 search tool when searching for a new home.

Buyers aren’t looking for a 3 bed 2 bath on YouTube either. They are looking at the areas and this is what we discovered a long time ago.

 

They are looking for video topics with rich keyword relevancy such as…..

- “Pros and Cons of Living in”

- “Cost of Living in”

- “Avoid Moving to”

YouTube is the only platform that rewards their creators for holding the attention of the viewer for longer durations of time.

 

This allows you to create content that establishes your brand and services as the go-to authority in the marketplace.
